Cinematique Under the Stars

In Daytona Beach (as well as Ormond Beach) they have a program where they show a movie outside "under the stars" once a month.  All the movies are based on books and done in partnership with the local library book clubs.  We went to the movie in Daytona Beach recently because they were showing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

Impromptu Concert in the Park

There are a few musicians that play and sing in different areas of the Casements at night around sunset.  On this night a few of them got together to have a little concert -- it was not advertised but spread word-of-mouth throughout the "regulars" at the park.

My dogs, Taylor and Gizmo, have become quite fond of the gentleman on the right in the cowboy hat because he carries with him a box of treats.  Actually while we were watching this concert, Taylor was whining and barking with excitement trying to get me to take her to see him.

It was a beautiful night in Ormond Beach but there was a major storm system moving through northern part of the county and Flagler Beach.  I took this picture looking north towards the Granada bridge from where we were sitting for the concert.

Sunset under the Oak Tree

This picture was taken from in front of Rockefeller's old summer home in the Casements in Ormond Beach.  There is a large oak tree overlooking the park next to the Halifax River.  The sun is setting over the Granada Blvd bridge to the North West of the house.

It's a beautiful place to take a walk at anytime but especially at sunset.

Beautiful Sunrise

I thought this sunrise was going to be a bust because of all the fog and clouds but once the sun got up everything cleared out. I even got this bird to pose for me.  I took this picture in front of the Ormond Beachfront Park.

And here is a shot just before sunrise that I took looking south down the coast.  I thought the blue color was pretty intense.

Daytona Beach Pier

Daytona Beach has put a lot of work into trying to revitalize their pier in the past couple years.  This picture was taken from the pier looking back at the boardwalk where they have added a ferris wheel, roller coaster and a go-cart track.  Behind me is the Joe's crab shack restaurant that is located over the ocean on the pier.  I haven't eaten there yet but it's on my list of places to go.

This picture happened to be taken on a Saturday night during Spring break last weekend.  Although the picture doesn't really show it, the boardwalk was packed that night.

Spring Break Nationals

Every year Daytona Beach hosts the Spring Break Nationals.  It's kind of a mix of car show and demonstration for the audio/video car technology manufacturers.  This was my first year going and it was a lot of fun.  Here are some shots of my favorite cars at the event.

Sunsets over the Halifax River

One of the best places to go around sunset in Ormond Beach is to the parks on the east side of the Granada bridge.  They have excellent walking trails, places to sit and places for kids to play.  I have been going there for years walking my dogs and over the past 3 years we have been taking my daughter so she can burn some energy and play at the park.  The sunsets are spectacular here and they are all different.  Here are 2 that I captured recently.
